Quite simply, I am never caught without a big tub of authentic Greek yogurt in the fridge. I use it instead of mayonnaise and sour cream, stir it into curries and soups, eat it as a quick, easy and healthy snack with honey, fruit and nuts, and much more.
But beyond these simple everyday uses, I’ve also realised that I feature it in quite a few recipes here on Scrummy Lane. And it’s such a versatile ingredient. From muffins and simple desserts to dips, bread, and even a sauce for roast chicken, you won’t believe how many creative ways there are to use it!
Greek yogurt is one of my favorite and most-used ingredients. It’s protein-packed and generally nutritious (read about the health benefits of Greek yogurt here, if that interests you!), but tastes luscious and creamy. It’s also incredibly versatile in baking and cooking!

I’ve been adding Greek yogurt to baked goods for a very long time. Not only does it improve the texture and flavor, it generally makes them lighter, too. It also helps to keep them moist, and adds sneaky protein into my son’s lunch box!
I’m guessing that one or two of these could easily become new family favorites!

Next time you're looking for an impressive dessert that you can make ahead, try this burnt Basque cheesecake recipe (with Greek yogurt to make it a bit lighter). Otherwise known as a San Sebastian Cheescake, there's no crust and you bake it relatively quickly on a high heat so it's super easy to make. It might be an ugly duckling with its deep brown, almost burnt looking top, but it's so soft and creamy inside. It's like a simpler version of a New York cheesecake. Try it once and you'll make it again and again.

Air fry these Mediterranean style stuffed peppers in around half the time compared to your oven! This is an easy all-in-one dinner with ground beef, rice and vegetables, so no fancy side dishes needed. There are hidden veggies for the kids, and even picky eaters tend to like these since the stuffing tastes a bit like pasta sauce. Makes enough filling for two meals, or freeze for another time.

The appetizers and sides are often what people rave about the most on a special occasion, right? A fancy dinner-at-home certainly wouldn’t be the same without them. Well, guess what – there are plenty of these recipes that use Greek yogurt, too! Here are some of my favorites, from mini cheese pies to flatbread and more.

Every blog should have a hummus recipe, so here’s mine! (better late than never!) I love this quick version. Just throw a few ingredients into a food processor, then tip into a dish and top with pine nuts and a sprinkle of paprika. Serve with some simple 2-ingredient flatbread and you’re in appetizer heaven!
Greek Quesadillas With Tsatziki (Easiest Spanakopita!)
Ever tried Greek 'spanakopita' or spinach and feta cheese pie? If you have, you'll know how delicious it is. Try these Greek quesadillas – a lighter Greek-Mex version of spanakopita! – served with a traditional side of fresh and tangy tsatziki sauce.
What are some other ways to use Greek yogurt in cooking and baking?
Greek yogurt makes a great substitute for mayonnaise in recipes such as coleslaw, egg, tuna or potato salad, to spread on a sandwich, or just to eat with your meal as you would mayonnaise. It’s also a perfect substitute for cream served with desserts, or for sour cream in Mexican dishes! Try also adding it to smoothies or swirling it into soups or curries to add creaminess or to tone down the spice level. Just make sure that you don’t stir it in until the end, otherwise it can curdle.
What kind of Greek yogurt should I buy?
I always try to buy an authentic no-sugar-added Greek or Greek-style brand of yogurt that is just milk and yogurt cultures. I recommend brands such as Chobani or FAGE. Aldi also sometimes sells authentic style Greek yogurt in a large tub. Ultimately, though, you can use whichever kind of Greek yogurt that you like best and that is available where you live!
