This warm chocolate dipping sauce will be your last-minute dessert life saver! It'll take you barely 5 minutes to warm cream and butter together, then melt chocolate into it to create a smooth, silky and creamy sauce. Use for dipping fruit, donuts, or cake, or drizzle over ice cream, cakes and more!
Combine the butter and cream in a small glass jug or bowl. Heat in the microwave in 30-second bursts until warm and the butter has melted. Stir well.
¼ cup butter, 1 cup heavy cream
Break up the chocolate into pieces, if using a bar. Drop into the warm butter and cream mixture and let melt for a few minutes. Then stir until smooth. At this point you can also stir in the pinch of salt if you like.
3½ ounces chocolate, 1 pinch salt
Pour the sauce into little individual bowls for people to dip all kinds of goodies into! Alternatively, drizzle over ice cream, cakes, cheesecakes... anything you like!
Notes
Alternative warming method: If you don't have a microwave, you can melt the butter into the cream in a glass bowl suspended over a saucepan of boiling water. Then drop the chocolate in to melt as in the microwave version. Don't let the glass bowl touch the hot water.Make-ahead instructions: You can make the sauce up to a week in advance, however re-warm the sauce again gently in the microwave just before serving. If it seems too thick, just drizzle in a little more warm cream.Serving ideas: Try different fruits, cake or brownie bites, donuts, churros, biscotti, nuts, and anything else you can think of for dipping! How about making a dessert platter with the chocolate sauce and lots of things to dip in? Alternatively, use the sauce to drizzle over cakes or ice cream, or layer it in a parfait or sundae.
